C.S. (Carlton Stevens) Montanye (1892-1948) was a prolific American writer of pulp fiction mysteries. His novelettes and short stories were published in a number of magazines, one of them being “Thrilling Detective”. Montanye’s stories in the above magazine featured a sports reporter, Johnny Castle, who somehow always managed to get himself mixed up in murder investigations. The stories involving him are all set in New York and they provide a detailed picture of night life in New York City during the 1940s. The stories are entertaining and well worth reading.
