“The Cross of Daggers, or The Lair of the Devil Worshipers” is the fifth in a series of nine stories featuring Dazaar and the House of Seven Devils. In the fifth story, Nick Carter disguises himself in order to gain admission to a meeting of Devil Worshipers which he believes has been organised by Dazaar, an evil Thibetan magician. As part of an initiating ceremony, a young lady is subjected to excruciating torture, but Nick has anticipated that something like this might happen. He has therefore arranged for a squad of New York police to raid the lair when he gives the signal. The police officers smash open the door of the lair and the Devil Worshipers are all placed under arrest.
