The Sexton Blake series of detective stories were published from 1893 to 1978, and were written by more than 200 different authors. The first of the many authors was Harry Blyth, who created the character of Sexton Blake, and wrote seven stories in the series between 1893 and 1898. The fifth story by Harry Blyth was “Sexton Blake, Detective” which was published in 1894 in “The Union Jack” magazine. In this story, Sexton Blake investigates a “most remarkable and sensational case” involving the suspicious death of a wealthy gentleman, and the strange disappearance of his young daughter. Unfortunately, Blyth wrote only another two Sexton Blake stories before he died of typhoid fever in February, 1898, aged only 48 years.
