Daniel Boone’s younger brother, Squire, is betrothed to Annie McArdle, the daughter of a wealthy Southern landowner, but an Englishman, the Hon. Augustus Yelverton, also has his eyes on young Annie. Yelverton is a crooked gambler who has won the McArdle estate in a card game, and he forces Annie to agree to marry him. Annie begs Daniel Boone to help her, and the famous backwoodsman deliberately provokes Yelverton into fighting a duel, so that he can legally kill the English card sharp.
